And the Winner is ...
Charity selections for 2025.
Every year, Fruitful Detours runs a reverse donation campaign. In past years, we’ve given to some wonderful organizations like World Central Kitchen, UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief), and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
This year, we couldn’t decide between two very different winners, so donations have gone to both the ACLU and Partners for Our Communities. Here is some more info about them:
From the POC website (poc.news): Partners for Our Communities (POC) empowers underserved people to develop self-sufficiency and become leaders in their communities. We build partnerships with other community organizations, connect families with local resources, and remove barriers to access. POC is proud to provide a skilled, culturally sensitive staff that is bilingual and bicultural.
POC works with their partners to provide case management, food and clothing, counseling, education and employment assistance. They work with senior citizens, youth, and the impoverished.
From the ACLU website (aclu.org): With more than 1.1 million members, 500 staff attorneys, thousands of volunteer attorneys, and offices throughout the nation, the ACLU of today continues to fight government abuse and to vigorously defend individual freedoms including speech and religion, a woman’s right to choose, the right to due process, citizens’ rights to privacy and much more. The ACLU stands up for these rights even when the cause is unpopular, and sometimes when nobody else will.
Congratulations to our winners, and many thanks to all who made charity nominations.
